Digest and Ingest.

What are you doing?

Lately, I have been thinking about these two words with respect to knowledge and information. I am aware that we have so much information at our fingertips, which often means we are ingesting more than we are digesting.

Our lives can get so full that we get stuck not knowing what to do next. I wonder if we should limit the amount of information we take in (ingest) and spend more time digesting what we have already consumed.

I love to read, listen to podcasts and gain more knowledge but could this be leaving me more frustrated and anxious about not being able to do what I hear. It could be that you are experiencing a similar feeling.

So, I am now choosing to take in less to do more as this will be more transformational than transactional.

I think digesting could look like this:

  1. Reviewing

  2. Reflecting

  3. Actioning

Then, and only then - starting on something new. Some great tools out there can help with digesting, such as Tiago Forte’s progressive summarization or Linking Your Thinking on note-taking and note-making.

The Challenge

Why not try and spend some more time digesting over the next seven days what you have already ingested before moving to the next big idea.
